Birds in the Wetlands

Last week we had a lovely four-day stay at Toorbul, working on new Wetlands series paintings. These are watercolour on cotton paper and are inspired by the wetlands of the Pumicestone Passage.

I love the wetlands — the water, the plants and the birds.

The White-faced Heron is my favourite bird. I love its harsh cry and its poise as it stealthily moves around the wetlands.

I often see Spoonbills in groups of 8 or 10 in the wetlands of Toorbul. It’s lovely to watch them swishing their bills back and forth as they search for food in the shallows.

And I think the Purple Swamphen is an under-rated bird. I love its beautiful feathers and the way it seems almost to walk across the water.

I’ve now added 4 new paintings to the Wetlands series — Heron 1, Heron 2, Spoonbills and Swamphens. I hope you enjoy them.

These paintings will soon be available through my online shop.
