Have you heard of Reverse Garbage Qld and its amazing WornOUT? event?
I have been involved with Reverse Garbage as a director or volunteer for around 20 years. This amazing workers’ cooperative collects pre-consumer waste from factories and other suppliers and sells these gems to the public at low cost. It’s a fantastic resource for artists, handypeople, students – anyone really.
WornOUT? is an exhibition of creative upcycling in the fields of fashion and costume design.
47 makers will present garments that focus on the creative reuse of existing (non-new) fabrics and materials in three discrete, inclusive, body-positive runway showcases:
- Refashion – garments suitable for day to day, real life wear
- Wearable Art – highly decorative and imaginative costume
- Cosplay – Popular culture (film, tv, comics, gaming) inspired costume
Tickets for WornOUT are available online.
I have donated my painting Brisbane CBD to Reverse Garbage to raffle to raise funds for the co-op. Raffle tickets are only $10 each and can be bought at the Reverse Garbage shop or by phoning them on 07 3891 9744. Tickets will also be available on the night at WornOUT.
