About Lyn and Paul

Lyn Graham

Painter and print maker

I’m a painter and printmaker based in the subtropical city of Brisbane, Australia.

I’ve been painting for more than 30 years and completed a Diploma of Fine Art from the Brisbane Institute of Art.

I work mainly in oil, but also in watercolour, to depict the beauty of the Australian landscape.

My art is inspired by my travels to the Torres Strait and Far North Queensland, through lush tropical rainforests, to the arid Queensland outback, to the cool temperate rainforests of Tasmania, and the coast in between.

There is always something beautiful to paint wherever I go whether it be mountains, a waterhole, a creek, a dry river bed, sand dunes, the ocean, the rain, trees and flowers. Painting makes me slow down and really look at what’s in front of me.

In this photo, I am sketching on the Bruny Island Quarantine Station jetty. It was a cold, tranquil late afternoon in winter.

I donate some of my work to support various environmental organisations.

Paul Rees

Painter

I’m a Brisbane-based painter who works in oils and watercolours, pictured here in Whynot Studio.

My latest series is of urban landscapes called Towering that is part of a joint exhibition with Lyn in November 2025 called West End: Street to Sky. Paintings from this series have been finalists in the 2024 Harden Art Prize and the Royal Queensland Art Society’s 2023 Brisbane: Landmarks, Landscapes and Personalities Prize.

My previous joint exhibition with Lyn as The Enormous Vastness. These paintings were inspired by our travels in Outback Queensland. One of my paintings in this series, Be What You Wanna Be, was a finalist in the 2023 Harden Art Prize.

Outside of painting, I was a winner of ABC Radio National’s Short Story Competition and I have been involved in many community and environmental activities over the years.
