I love heath country with its stunted, often windswept, trees and shrubs as well as its wildflowers and little birds that dart around in the thickets. I’ve always preferred the heath country to the rainforests which, although stunningly beautiful, are, to me, a little oppressive.

I still remember the first time I ever saw Blue-faced Honeyeaters. They didn’t look real with their olive green feathers and bright blue faces. Now, they’re often in our garden feasting on the grevillea outside the studio. They also hang upside down on the banana flowers.
