Habitats > Wetlands

The Wetlands paintings were originally inspired by the wetlands of Toorbul on the Pumicestone Passage, an hour north of Brisbane. They are watercolour, ink and gouache paintings on cotton paper.

My family has had a place at Toorbul for more than 60 years and generations of children in the extended family have run wild there. Toorbul is home to thousands of birds, many of whom migrate from the northern hemisphere each year while others reside there year-round. There is a wetland right behind our house. When we were kids, we called it ‘the swamp’.

Sizes below are for the painting.
